Geometry Shapes in Art Extra Credit Project

Description:  Create a piece of art that includes in the art at least 3 shapes or geometric ideas we have studied.  Your art must somehow show and label the shapes that are used.  The art can be any physical form: a drawing, photography, 3 dimensional constructions, etc.  Be creative!  We will vote on the projects for each class and the two that the class feels are the best will receive additional extra credit.

Requirements:

  1. Project must be some form of physical art: drawing, photos, 3D construction/sculpture, etc.
  2. Project must be at least as big as a standard 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper: This means if doing photography, you should be taking multiple photos and putting them on a poster board.  3D constructions should have one length about as big as a piece of paper or larger.
  3. At least 3 shapes or geometric ideas must be a part of the art:
    • Examples of shapes: circle, quadrilateral, square, rectangle, rhombus, kite, trapezoid, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, ellipse.
    • Examples of geometric ideas: parallel lines, perpendicular lines, alternative interior angles, bisectors.
  4. The shapes/ideas must be marked and labeled: You can outline and label shapes/ideas directly on your art, or you can make a separate 'rough sketch' of your art and mark/label on the sketch to avoid messing up your art.

Due date: Monday, December 9

Grading: Projects which meet all requirements will receive 8 extra credit points. Projects which are missing some requirements will received between 2 and 8 extra credit points, depending upon how close they are to meeting requirements.

On the day the projects are due, I will display all entries in your class and the students in your class will vote on which they feel is 'best' (most interesting, clever, good quality, etc.) The projects receiving the top 2 number of votes in the class will receive 2 additional extra credit points.

I look forward to seeing your creations!
