Taking the Rio Salado Accuplacer Math Placement Test

The Rio Salado Accuplacer Test

If you want to take your math classes at DV for Rio Salado community college credit in addition to high school credit, you can register as a student in the Maricopa Community College system and enroll in the Rio Salado math course or courses which correspond to your specific math class at DV.

To do that you need to have scored at or above the minimum required score on Rio Salado's Accuplacer math placement test for your math course. The test is administered by Rio Salado on a computer and to take it you must be registered as a student in the Maricopa Community College system. There is no fee to register as a student and no fee to take the Accuplacer placement test. There is a fee for taking classes for college credit: you need to pay Rio Salado the tuition for the college classes you are taking for college credit.

If you have not ever taken the Accuplacer test, or took the Accuplacer previously but did not receive the minimum required score in order to take this year's math course for college credit, you can take (or re-take) the Accuplacer test by going to one of Rio Salado's testing centers throughout the metro-Phoenix area. The testing centers are typically open until 9pm and are open until 5pm on Saturdays, although hours may vary. There is no appointment needed to take the test at the testing centers and there is no cost to take the test.

Below is information to help if you need to take Rio Salado's math Accuplacer test.

Registering as a student with the Maricopa Community College system

The test is administered on a computer and you must login with a current Maricopa Community college student number. Registering is free and is done on the Rio Salado website. Here is a flyer that gives instructions for how to register as a student: Rio Salado Registration Flyer.

Information about the Accuplacer test

This Rio Salado webpage provides information about the Accuplacer test: Accuplacer test information. For the math courses we offer at DV for dual-enrollment credit, Rio Salado requires that you take the 'Advanced Algebra and Functions' version of the Accuplacer test (last year, they started using a new version...previously, the test taken was called the 'College Level Mathematics' test).

Studying for the Accuplacer test

Last year, Rio Salado began providing an online practice test that can be very helpful for reviewing before taking the Accuplacer. The webpage generates questions that most students reported were similar to what they saw on the actual Accuplacer test. If you visit the webpage multiple times, there seem to be multiple versions of each question, so you can get additional practice by going to the site multiple times.

To access the online practice site, browse to: Rio's online Accuplacer practice test, scroll down to the bottom and click 'Start here' for the College Algebra test.

You can also use this printable pdf version of problems that were downloaded from Rio Salado's Accuplacer review site in previous years: Older Rio Salado Review problems (key followed by blank pages).

Locations/hours of Rio Salado's Testing Centers

This Rio Salado webpage provides information about the testing centers you can visit to take the Accuplacer when you are ready: Rio Salado testing centers information. There is no appointment necessary - just walk in. Two important things to be aware of:
