Frequently Asked Questions...
How can I find out my Accuplacer score from last year?
- If you have your MEID Rio Salado login information, you should be able to login to the Rio Salado site and find your placement test score online.
- You can contact your DV counselor. They often save information about last year's Accuplacer results.
- You can try contacting your previous year math teacher. Many teachers save this information in case it is needed.
- If you are pretty sure you have a high enough score on Accuplacer, you could just go ahead and try enrolling. It shouldn't be a problem unless the score is too low, in which case you wouldn't be able to complete enrollment.
What is the minimum required Accuplacer test score in order to take a course for college credit? What happens if I can't get a passing score on Accuplacer?
For Honors Finite Math / Brief Calculus: Required Accuplacer score is 60.
For AP Statistics: Required Accuplacer score is 54.
If you can't meet these required scores you would still take your course for high school credit. You would just not be able to choose to also get college credit for the course.
What if I didn't take Accuplacer last year or I know that my score is too low?
You will need to retake (or take) the Accuplacer at one of Rio Salado's testing centers. This page: Accuplacer information contains info about how to prepare for Accuplacer and about taking the Accuplacer test.
I didn't take Accuplacer last year, or my score is too low. Can I retake(take) the Accuplacer test?
Yes. You will need to go to one of Rio Salado's testing centers and take the test. The testing centers have evening and weekend hours. There is no fee or appointment needed for taking Accuplacer, however you have to have registered with Rio Salado to obtain a student ID number beforehand and you must bring a photo ID to the testing center. Here is a flyer on the procedure for registering to get a student ID number: Rio student id flyer. More information about Accuplacer (about the test, study materials, testing center locations and hours, etc.) are on this page: More Accuplacer information.
I took Accuplacer last year and had to register as a Maricopa Community College student to do so. Doesn't that mean I don't have to provide the Prop300 citizenship documentation?
No, you do need to provide the documentation this year. Rio Salado considers you a new student until the first time you complete the enrollment process and pay tuition for a dual-enrollment class. If this is the first year you are enrolling in, and paying for, a dual-enrollment course, then you do need to provide the Prop300 citizenship documentation. (Note: If you are copying a driver's license, Rio Salado requires that it be a color copy and include both sides of the license.)
Both my classes show up as Fall 2015. Isn't one of these for next semester?
Yes, but Rio Salado requires that you enroll in both semester classes now, at the beginning of the year. This is why they mark both courses as Fall 2015.
How many credits do these courses earn?
This depends upon the course:
For Honors Finite Math / Brief Calulus: Each of the semesters is 3 credits, so that's a total of 6 credits for this year of math.
For AP Statistics: This is a one-semester college course taught over 2 high-school semester, so this course is 3 college math credits.
What course section ID numbers should we use?
Here are the sections ID numbers for my classes this year:
Honors Finite Math / Brief Calculus - Mr. Felling, period 0: MAT217 (38608) and MAT212 (38595)
Honors Finite Math / Brief Calculus - Mr. Felling, period 1: MAT217 (38609) and MAT212 (38596)
Honors Finite Math / Brief Calculus - Mr. Felling, period 2: MAT217 (38610) and MAT212 (38597)
AP Statistics - Mr. Felling, period 4: MAT206 (36485))
AP Statistics - Mr. Felling, period 6: MAT206 (40719))
What are the benefits of taking a course for dual-enrollment? Should I take the course for dual-enrollment credit?
There are a lot of factors and everyone's situation is different. In general, it's best to ask your student's counselor about this.
